"Ukiyoe Series - No 1"

Stamps 1-5 depict portraits of beauties in Edo period and stamps 6-10 depict images of the series "Rokujûyoshû meisho zue" (Famous Views of the 60 odd Provinces) of Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) also known as Andō Hiroshige.

  1. Ogiya-hanaogi-yosoyuki, The women of the Ogiya which goes out for cherry blossom viewing (Eisho Cyokosai).
  2. Tosei-Onna-huzokutu-Hokkoku-no-Keise, A peerless beautiful woman from Toseionnafuzokutu (Utamaro Kitagawa).
  3. Furyu-Setsugetsuka-Tsuki, The woman who looks at the moon One sheet of the series of snow, the moon, and a flower (Eizan Kikukawa).
  4. Ogiya-uchi-Hanaogi-yoshinotatuta, The fourth generation Hanaogi is a famous prostitute of elegance (Utamaro Kitagawa).
  5. Furyu-mutamagawa-Tyoufu-no-tamagawa, The landlady of a restaurant with a paper lantern (Eizan Kikukawa)


  6. Yamashiro province: Arashiyamatogetukyo (The Moon Crossing Bridge at Arashiyama).
    (Yamashiro was an old province in the area that is today Kyoto Prefecture)
    Mt. Arashi (Mountains Kyoto area) and Yamatogetu-bridge in Kyoto.
  7. Suo province: Iwakunikintaikyo.
    (Suo was an old province in the area that is today eastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture)
    Iwakuni-Kintai-bridge and Mt. Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
  8. Shinano province: Sarashinatagotonotsukikyoudaisan.
    (Shinano was an old province that is today Nagano Prefecture)
    Mt. Kamuriki in Nagano Prefecture.
  9. Awa province: Narutonohuha.
    (Awa was an old province in the area that is today Tokushima Prefecture)
    Awazi-Island and Nruto-Strait.
  10. Kai province: Saruhashi (Terrific depiction of the monkey bridge).
    (Kai was an old province in the area that is today Yamanashi Prefecture)
    Saru-bridge (Monkey Bridge) in Yamanashi Prefecture.
