"50th Anniversary of Independence"
Issue date: 11th December 2013

Kenya marked its 50th Anniversary of Independence. The stamp issue of 4 sheets of 25 stamps and three souvenirsheets show casing the strides the country has made for the last 50 years in Social Economic, Political, Heritage and Tourism.

A government spokesman said that the stamps depict different aspects of Kenya's liberation struggle and other key historical interest to philatelists. "There is a story behind every postage stamp. Each of the iconic images on all those little bits of paper captures a unique angle of the Kenyan history. They play a significant role in honouring national heroes and showcasing important feature of our culture and history".

The tourism set includes one stamp of the Mt. Kenya, the Longonot Crater and the Thompson Falls at Nyahururu. In the political set is included one stamp with an image of Munyao Kisoi, hoisting the Kenyan flag on Mt. Kenya in the year 1963.
