The lead mine at Mesters Vig was opened at the mountain ‘Blyklippen’ (The lead cliff) in the autumn of 1952, due to findings made in 1948 by the geologist Lauge Koch.
Mesters Vig is is situated on the southern shore of the King Oscar Fjord in Northeast Greenland National Park.

The lead-zinc mine ’The Black Angel’ at Maarmorilik started its ore production in 1973.
The mining area was placed 600 metres above sea level and access to the area was with a 1.7 km long cableway from the earlier marble quarry.
The mountain is also known as ‘Black Angel’.
