Ukiyo-e prints by Utagawa Hiroshige 

The 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō (literally, the 'Eastern Sea Road) are the rest areas along the Tōkaidō, which was a coastal route that ran for about five hundred kilometers from Nihonbashi in Edo (Tokyo) to Sanjō Ōhashi in Kyoto.

 

14th Station Yoshiwara.
Yoshiwara is part of present-day Fuji City.
Mt. Fuji is seen to the left (behind) and Ashitaka-yama is seen to the right.

34th Station Yoshida.
Yoshida in present-day Toyohashi City.
It depicts steeplejacks, or tobi, repairing Yoshida Castle and the famous bridge at Yoshida (Toyo River) with Goi-yama (454.4 m) in the background.

37th Station Fujikawa.
