The Los Alerces National Park is located in the Andean region of the Chubut province and covers an area of 2'630 square kilometres along the Chilean border. The park contains a scenery of lakes and mountains and is most famous for the Alerce tree. On the northern and southern shores of Menéndez lake are found the best examples of these. The tree reaches heights of some 60 metres with trunks of three metres diameter. Some specimens found in the park have reached the amazing age of 3'600 years.
