The Mt. Sugarloaf (396 m) is situated at the mouth of Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro. It is the most famous of several "morros", which rise from water's edge around Rio de Janeiro. Its top is reachable by a cable-car.

The Mt. Corcovado (710 m) is another granite peak. On its top is situated the 39.6 metres tall Cristo Redentor Statue. It was constructed between 1922 and 1931. The summit can be reached via a narrow road or the Corcovado Rack Railway.

The Morro Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers Mountain) is also a famous symbol of Rio de Janeiro and is located between the Leblon and São Conrado beaches. It has two summits, Irmão Maior (533m) and Irmão Menor (421m).  There is a hiking trail to the summits.

The granite dome Pedra da Gávea (842 m) is located between São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca. It is known as one of the largest monolith in the world.

The Pico da Tijuca (1'021 m) is the highest point of the Tijuca Forest and known as the highest point in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
