Chengde Mountain Resort
Platzhalter

Chengde in Hebei Province is located about 230 kilometres in the north-east of Beijing.

The topography of Chengde is mainly divided into plateau and mountainous regions, including Yanshan, Yinshan and Qilaotushan mountains, as well as the Luanhe, Liaohe, Chaobaihe and Jiyunhe rivers flowing through the city.

The city is famous for the Mountain Resort or Imperial Summer Resort (the Qing dynasty's summer palace). It was built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) between 1703 and 1792. The Mountain Resort is divided into four parts: the Palace Area, Lake Area, Plain Area and Mountain Area. The Mountain Area, located in the northwest of the resort, accounts for 80% of the total area. The mountain area is formed by four valleys: Filbert Valley, Pine Valley, Pear Valley and Pine-cloud Valley, which run south to north.
