The Five Great Mountains

The Hua Shan is situated about 120 kilometres in the east of the city Xi'an in the Shaanxi Province. 

It is the "West Great Mountain" of "The Five Great Mountains". 

The Hua Shan is divided in East, South and West Peak.

The East Peak consits of four summits (Zhaoyang Feng 2'096 m, Zhaoyang Feng, Botai Feng and Yunű Feng).
The South Peak consits of three summits (Luoyan Feng 2'194 m, Songgui Feng and Xiaozi Feng).
The West Peak has only one summit at 2'082 m.

The stamp was issued in the series "Yellow River Views".

"Heluo in Mountains" demostrates the brilliant civilization of the Yellow River valley, represented by the Huashan Mountain, Fenlingdu, the Luohe River, the Longmen Grottes and the White Horse Temple. The Sanmenxia Reservoir and the Xiallangdi Water Control Project along the Yellow River benefit generations and generations. Legend goes, that for emperor Fu Xi wrote the "Book of Changes", and his daughter became the Goddess of the Luohe River. Based on the legend, ancient Chinese writer Cao Zhi wrote the famous prose "On the Goddess of the Luohe River". Luoyang, which served as the capital of nine dynasties throughout history, is noted for the peony, the national flower of China.
