The Yellow River is the third-longest river in Asia, following the Yangtze River and Yenisei River, and the sixth-longest in the world at the estimated length of 5'464 km.

"The Source of the Yellow River"
The stamps were issued in the series "Yellow River Views".

"The Source of the Yellow River" at the foot of the Bayan Har Mountains, is sheltered by the Kunlun Mountains, which then flows through Ngoring Lake and Gyaring Lake. The primitive ecosystem of the source region, as well as the sense of modernity reflected by the Longyangxia and Lijanxia hydropower stations, marks the first footprint of the Yellow River.

On the Macau stamp is also depicted a monastery, it is not confirmed, but it seems to be the Taer monastery in Huangzhong.

The Bayan Har Mountains are a mountain range on the Tibetan Plateau at about 4300 metres above sea level with elevated mountain areas reaching up to 1'000 m higher. It includes the significantly higher Anyemaqen Shan (6'282 m) in its northeastern corner. The range separates the drainage areas of the Yellow River and the Yangtze rivers. The source of the Yellow River is in the basin of Yueguzonglie, which is located in the northern part of the range.

"Nine Bend River Passing through the City"

"Nine Bend River Passing through the City" depicts the yellow River makes nine turns when flowing through the city of Xining, the Yinshan Mountains and the Helan Mountains.

Depicted is as well the 26 metres high Maitreya Buddha statue at Bingling-Si (please see: Maucau stamp above digit "2.00"). The statue is located on the southwestern end of the Liujiaxia Gorge reservoir. Steep cliffs and towering mountains rise on either side of the river, and manifest the grandeur of the Liujiaxia gorge.

"Jingnan beyond the Great Wall"

"Jingnan beyond the Great Wall" stamp brings to us the impressive First Bend of the Yellow River, the cultural heritage of the Bingling Temple and picturesque scenery of the stone Forest before it runs through Lanzhou to the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Ningxia is a fertile land nurtured by the Yellow River. The ancient Great Wall and the Western Xia Imperial Tombs remind people of the autonomous region's past glory. The city of Yinchuan and the Shapotou area are two fertile oases in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.

The Macau stamp depicts as well an islamic style building complex in the China Hui Culture Park, located 20 kilometres in the south of the city Yinchuan.

"The Wilderness of Hetao"

"The Wilderness of Hetao" portrays the typical landform at the U-shaped turn of the Yellow River. Today Hetao is a rich and populous place, and few can imagine, what it used to be in remote antiquity. The small stamp vividly depicts Wanjiazhai Water Control Project, the Laoniu Bend at the foot of the Great Wall and the Mausoleum of Genghis Khan in Ordos.

"Golden Waves at Hukou" & "Shanxi Surrounded by the River"

While listening to the "Golden Waves at Hukou", one can overlook. Yan'an, a sacred land of Chinese revolutions, from which Chinese people marched towards the People's Republic of China. There, the mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor, a legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation, with nessed the nation's revival. The Yellow River then passes by the Zhenbeitai Fortress. The new look of the ancient city of Xi'an laid a solid foundation for resuming the past glory of the Silk Road. At the border between Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, the Hukou Waterfall has become a symbol of China's bational spirit.

"Shanxi Surrounded by the River" depicts the scene that the Yellow River flows through Shanxi Province. Passing the Second Qi (sandbank) of the Yellow River, it then runs through the Quiankun Bend. Climbing Mount Wutau or standing on the Guanque Tower, one can overlook the vaste, fertile land irrigated by the Yellow River.

"Heluo in Mountains"

"Heluo in Mountains" demostrates the brilliant civilization of the Yellow River valley, represented by the Hua Shan Mountain, Fenlingdu, the Luohe River, the Longmen Grottes and the White Horse Temple. The Sanmenxia Reservoir and the Xiallangdi Water Control Project along the Yellow River benefit generations and generations. Legend goes, that for emperor Fu Xi wrote the "Book of Changes", and his daughter became the Goddess of the Luohe River. Based on the legend, ancient Chinese writer Cao Zhi wrote the famous prose "On the Goddess of the Luohe River". Luoyang, which served as the capital of nine dynasties throughout history, is noted for the peony, the national flower of China.

 

Yelow River Three Gorges

The stamp was issued in the series "Paysages de Madagascar et de la Chine".

 The Yellow River Three Gorges area is situated on the upper reaches of Xiallangdi Water Control Project in Henan Province (Yellow River Xiaolangdi Scenic Area). The gorges cover 40 square kilometers. Each gorge has its own characteristics. Bali Gorge forms the narrowest part of these reaches of the river and the water gushes between the sheer cliffs on either side. Gushan Gorge is extraordinary as if it were cut out by some supernatural beings while the Dragon and Phoenix Gorge winds snake-like between steep sides. All in all the Three Georges of the Yellow River present uniquely beautiful water and mountain scenery in northern region of China.

"Water Charm of Central China"

The Yellow River creates the unparalleled "Water Charm of Central China". There the Ancient Capital of the Zhao State, together with the city of Zhenzhou, the Shaolin Temple in Song Shan Mountain, the Ancient Observatory in Dengfeng, the ancient capital of Kaifeng, the Lingyan Temple and the Simen Pagoda, watches the Yellow River flowing eastwards.

"The Clear River and the Calm Sea"

The stamp "The Clear River and the Calm Sea" depicts many historical legacies of Shangdong Province, such as Tai Shan Mountain, known as the Head of China's Five Sacred Mountains, Jinan that is dupped the "city of springs", and Qufu, the hometown of Confucius. It also showcases the rise of the province's energy industry, evidenvced by the Shengli Oil Field in Dongying City, where the Yellow River flows into the sea. That is the final station of the Yellow River, the mother river of the Chinese nation.
