The Cascada de Caño Canoas is located at about 2°28'21.01"N 73°44'13.58"W in the the Sierra de la Macarena of the Colombian department Meta. The Sierra de la Macarena stretches about 40 kilometres in the east of the Cordillera Oriental over 120 kilometres in north south direction.
Most of its area (6,200 km²) is an ecologically protected area with a status of National Natural Park since 1971.
La Macarena is the home of at least 48 species of orchids, jaguars, cougars, deers, 8 species of monkeys, about 100 species of reptiles, about 550 species of birds and about 1'200 species of insects.
