The Simien Mountains, also known as Semien Mountains, are located in northern Ethiopia. The Simien Mountains Nationalpark was established in the year 1969 and covers an area of 179 square kilometres. It has been also a World Heritage Site since 1978. The landscape was formed over millions of years and is famous for its jagged mountain peaks, deep Valleys and one of the most scenic mountain ranges in Africa. Its highest point is the Ras Dashen at 4'550 metres, also the highest point of the country.

The cliff areas of the park are the main habitat of the Endangered Walia ibex (Capra walie), a wild mountain goat which is endemic to the Simien Mountains.
