Moorea

Moorea is part of the Windward Islands (Îles du Vent), of the Society Islands of French Polynesia.

Moorea covers an area of 134 sq km and is of volcanic origin. Its highest peak is Mount Tohiea 1’207 m. Other peaks are Mount Rotui 899 m, Mount Mouaroa (Bali Hai) 880 m, Mouaputa 830 m, Mount Fairurani 741 m, Mount Tearai 770 m, Mount Mouapu 762 m, Mount Taufuapae 769 m, Mount Matotea 714 m and Mount Parata 517 m.

Moorea island, Mount Mouaputa (830 m).

The Mount Mouaputa has a small hole through the top of its summit. The legend is telling the hole was made by the spear of the demigod Pai when he tossed it across from Tahiti to prevent Mt. Rotui from being carried off to the island of Raiatea by Hiro, the god of thieves.
