French Claim of Antarctic Land 136°E and 142°E

The St. Paul island (Île Saint-Paul) is forming together with Amsterdam Island one of the five districts of the French Southern Antarctic Lands. 

Its highest point, Crète de la Novara, rises 284 m above sea level.

SMS Novara (in the foreground) was a sail frigate with three masts and six decks of the Austro-Hungaian Navy. (Novara Expedition, around the world from 30.04.1857 - 30.8.1859).
