Most of the Bavarian Prealps are located in Germany, but small areas lie in Tyrol (Austria).
The Bavarian Prealps border in the east to the Chiemgauer Alps, in the southeast to the Kaiser Mountains, in the south to the Rofan Mountains and the Karwendel, in the southwest to the Wetterstein Range and in the west to the Ammergau Alps.
The highest mountain of the Bavarian Prealps is the Mt. Krottenkopf at 2'086 m.
