The active Pacaya Volcano is situated about 30 kilometres in the south of Guatemala city. It has been one of Central America's most active volcanoes for the last 500 years. Its published elevation is 2'060 metres, but height varies from year to year. The volcano's current active phase started in 1965 and the volcano has been almost constantly in eruption since then. MacKenney cone is the active vent of the Pacaya. Other cones are the Cerro Chino, Cerro Chiquito and Cerro Grande.
