The Sierra de los Cuchumatanes covers an area of about 16'350 square kilometres in the departments of Huehuetenango and El Quiché. It is known as the highet non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. The highest summit is known as La Torre (3'837 m), located in the west of the village Todos Santos Cuchumatán.
The stamp was issued in the series "Volcanoes and Lagunas".
The Laguna Magdalena is located in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes at an elevation of 2'850 metres, south of the small village San Francisco Las Flores.
