Shimōsa Province was a province of Japan in the area modern Chiba Prefecture and Ibaraki Prefecture (to the north of the Bōsō Peninsula.
Noboto was a small fishing village located on the east coast of the bay of Edo (Bay of Tokyo). There was a small shrine on the hill above the beach, and the two torii gates most likely belonged to it. Snow-covered Mount Fuji is seen through the larger torii.
