It depicts a merry scene of cherry-blossom viewing at Gotenyama, the hill north of Shinagawa in Edo (today Tokyo). Gotenyama, also known as Palace Mountain is a hill just north of Shinagawa in Edo. Shinagawa was the first stop of the fifty three stations of the Tōkaidō Road.

Gotenyama was in that time a popular site for excursions to enjoy cherry blossoms (planted during the seventeenth century), and the superb views of Mount Fuji and Sagami Bay. However, most part of the hill was destroyed, It was located in the area that today Gotenyama Garden and Gotenyama Trust Tower is located.
