The Kurikoma volcano (1'627 m) rises over the border triangle of the prefectures of Akita Iwate and Miyagi. The mountain offers magnificent views. From the top of the mountain top you have a panoramic view over Mt. Gassan, Mt. Chokaisan, the Zao Mountains, Mt. Komagatake, Mt. Hayachine and even towards the Pacific Ocean.
Mount Kurikoma forms together with Mount Kamuro and Mount Yakeishi the central part of the Kurikoma Quasi-National Park. The Kurikoma Quasi-National Park (established 1968) covers an area of 771 square kilometres.
