The lakes Isli and Tislite are located near the village Imilchil at the western end of the Parc National du Haut Atlas Oriental.
The parc covers an area of 552 square kilometres of the High Atlas between Midelt and Er Rachidia. The base rock consists of limestone with some igneous intrusions. The site ranges in altitude from 1'645 m in the bed of the Oued Arheddou to 3'102 m at the summit of Jbel Tanrhourt.
According to oral legend, the lakes were formed from the tears of two youngsters who were denied permission to marry — lake Tislite from the girl’s tears and the larger lake Isli from the young boy’s tears.
