Horace Bénédict de Saussure

Henri Louis Frédéric de Saussure (27.11.1829 – 20.02.1905) was a Swiss mineralogist and alpinist. He made the First Ascent in 1789 of The Klein Matterhorn (Switzerland), 3'883 metres.

In 1760 Horace Bénédict de Saussure visited Chamonix, and offered a reward to the first man to reach the summit of Mont Blanc. He made an unsuccessful attempt himself in 1785. In the year 1787 Saussure himself made together with Jaques Balmat the third ascent of Mont Blanc.
