The Erongo Mountains are situated in the north of the cities Karibib and Usakosys and about 30 kilometres in the east of the inselberg Spitzkoppe. Is is an eroded relict of a volcano, which was active some 140-150 million years ago. The Erongo massif has a diameter of about 30 kilometres. Its highest summit is the Mt. Hohenstein at 2'319 m, which is situated in the southwest of the massif.
The Erongo mountains are famous for its rockformations, known as the Elephant Head and the Bull's Party.
