The Mount Taranaki, also known as Mount Egmont, is a volcano in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island.

It is after the Mount Ruapehu (2'797 m) the second highest mountain on the North Island of New Zealand.

The stamp is showing a female figure of 'Zealandia' representing New Zealand with a background image of a steamer (representing a mail boat) sailing past Taranaki (Mount Egmont). The stamp is existing from different plates, various perforations and on different watermarked and unwatermarked paper types.

The stamp was issued again in the year 2005 as stamp on stamp.

The stamps, issued by the Government Life Insurance Office were limited to the pre-payment of postage on correspondence posted by the Government Life Insurance Office for delivery within the country. On 27th March 1969, this condition was changed and the stamps could be used on mail to both inland and overseas addresses.

Also included in the Limited Edition is a first day cover signed by the designer, a complete set of stamps and colour separations of the $3.60 stamp. The selling price of this premium set from New Zealand Post is $135.00. A certificate confirm, that only 2000 Limited Edition Packs have been produced.
