Waitomo Caves

The Waitomo Caves are situated about 12 kilometres in the north-west of Te Kuiti.

Under the green landscape of Waitomo, there is a labyrinth of caves, sinkholes and underground rivers. The main caves are known as Waitomo Glowworm Cave, Ruakuri Cave, Aranui Cave and Gardner's Gut. The Anui cave is famous for the millions of stalactites and the cave walls of Glowworm Cave are decorated with galaxies of native glow worms. New Zealand 1996 Waitomo Caves stamp
