The Jungfrau Rack Railway is an 1,000 mm gauge rack railway, which runs 9 kilometres from the Kleine Scheidegg (2'061 m) to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch (3'454 m). The railway runs from the Eigergletscher station (2'320 m) to the Jungfraujoch station within the Jungfrau Tunnel, built into the Eiger and Mönch mountains and containing the two intermediate stations Eigerwand (2'864 m) and Eismeer (3'180 m). The two stations are caverns and offers views out from the mountain and down to the valley.

At August 1th in the year 1912 the railway station of the Jungfrau Railway on the Jungfraujoch was inaugurated. The Jungfraujoch is a col between the mountains Mönch and Jungfrau. It is the lowest point on the mountain ridge between Mönch and Jungfrau and at this place is the railway station is located.

The Jungfrau Railway is connected with the Wengeneralp Railway. The Wengeneralp Railway links the Kleine Scheidegg with the villages Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen.

The stamp and card show the old "Touristenhaus" (originally built in 1912), buildings of the trainstation on Jungfraujoch and the Sphinx at 3'569 m. The mountain in the background is Mt. Mönch.

The buildings on Jungfraujoch caught fire and burned down completely in the 1972. New tourist facilities were opened in 1987 and the railway station was enlarged between 1990-1991.
