The Col de Pierre Pertuis is a 827 metres high mountain pass in the Jura Mountains. It is famous for a natural rock tunnel, a landmark from Roman times. The pass was in use at that time as a link between Aventicum (Avenches) and Augusta Raurica (Augst). The natural aperture in the rock was extended by the Romans, and bears a 3rd century inscription.
