Pik Ismoil Somoni 7'495 m

The Pik Ismoil Somoni is the highest mountain in Tajikistan and in the former Soviet Union. It is after Kongur (7'649 m) and Muztagh Ata (7'509 m) in China, the third highest mountain within the Pamir. It was known between 1932 - 1962 Pik Stalin and between 1962 and 1998 Pik Kommunism. It is named after Ismoil Somoni, the ancestor of the Samanid dynasty.

The first ascent: 9th September 1933 by the Soviet mountaineer Yevgeniy Abalakov.
