The 7 kilometres wide and steep cone of the active Lopevi is rising more than 1'400 m from the sea. It forms a small island in central Vanuatu and is known as one of Vanuatu's most active valocanoes.

The stamp is existing in 12 different values/colours and inscribed in french and eglish. The english stamps are also existing overprinted "Postage Due" and "Chiffre Taxe".
New Hebrides was the colonial name for Vanuatu, which got the independence from French-British Condominium on 30th June 1980.
