Tanna Island is about 40 km long and 19 km wide. The highest mountain on the island is the extinct Mt. Tukosmera (1'084 m). Mt. Yasur (361 m) is an active volcano on Tanna Island and known as one of the world's most active volcanoes. The volcano has been erupting almost continuously since 1774.
